LOCATION
Dalrymple is a quiet village in the heart of theAyrshire Countryside; It stands at the north of the Doon Valley. The River Doonis the southern boundary to this agricultural area.
The name Dalrymple is generally believed toderive from Gaelic and means “flat field of the crooked pool or river”. Thisdescription accurately describes the location of the village of Dalrymple.Although Dalrymple is an ancient Parish – the actual village is a fairly moderncommunity. Virtually no village existed before 1800 other than a few housesaround the Church. Around 1800 two streets – Main Street (where the property issituated) and Garden Street – were laid out by the local Laird. From that timethe village grew slowly until after World War II when surrounding miningcommunities were in decline and the families were re-homed in new dwellings inDalrymple.
There are two pubs, the Kirkton Inn and thewhite horse, as well as two shops and a postal office. The village is in thecatchment area for high schools in Ayr, Maybole and Dalmellington.
The town of Ayr is Ayrshire's foremost town andas such offers a good range of high street shops, supermarkets, recreational andprofessional facilities. In addition there are a number of well-renownedrestaurants and excellent private schooling at Wellington School for childrenof age 3 to 18. It is about seven miles north of Dalrymple, and buses to andfrom Ayr run every thirty minutes.
Dalrymple is also only1.5 miles from the newlyupgraded A77/M77 trunk road network. This provides easy access for the commuterwith links accessing in a Southerly direction towards Girvan and the Ayrshirecoast and in a Northerly direction toward Ayr and Glasgow.
The Ayrshire coast is famous worldwide for golfwith championship courses at Royal Troon, Turnberry (the venue for the Scottishopen in 2009) and Prestwick, all of which are within easy reach.
Both Ayr and Prestwick have mainline railwaystations, while Prestwick International Airport has regular and enhanced flightservice flights to London, Dublin and the rest of Europe.
